Westfield is delighted to be a partner of London 2012 and
have the opportunity to engage our customers, staff and clients in the
biggest ever event to be staged in the UK. Given the proximity of our
newest development, Westfield Stratford City to the Olympic Park, we
have been working closely with the London Organising Committee of the
Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) for the past few years however
being an official sponsor gives us the opportunity to bring the
partnership to life throughout all our centres across the UK.
As well as providing operational services to help LOCOG deliver the Games and having Team GB and ParalympicsGB House based at Westfield Stratford City throughout the Games in a stunning venue overlooking the Park, we will be activating the sponsorship on many other levels. This sponsorship gives us the chance to involve all our staff and customers across the UK through a range of events themed around London 2012 throughout the year.
Michael Gutman said: “We are delighted to be extending our relationship with LOCOG in our sponsorship of London 2012. Westfield will enhance the whole London 2012 experience in the period leading up to and during the Games and it is a fantastic way to get our customers and staff across the UK involved in the biggest event the UK has ever seen.”
Westfield Stratford City is also home to the first ever official Team GB and ParalympicsGB shop. Located on The Street, the shop sells a wide range of Team GB and ParalympicsGB clothing, gifts and souvenirs. The John Lewis department store at Westfield Stratford City also houses a 4,000 sq ft official London 2012 Shop on the third floor. The official London 2012 merchandise programme is expected to raise more than £80m towards the staging of the Games.
Westfield’s 1.9 million sq ft Stratford City development is directly adjacent to the Olympic Park and it is estimated that three quarters of spectators will pass through it on their way into the Park at Games-time. Stratford City is the largest urban shopping centre in Europe and offers spectacular views of the Olympic Stadium and Aquatics Centre which are only a short walk from the centre.
